Harvesting Friendships

 

Just once in your bitter existence
choose to be magnanimous 
and praise your sworn enemy
when they do manage
to get something right

Even if it's a minor point of contention

Pay no heed

to the closed minded hard liners

who will blast you

for being a sell out appeaser

Maybe our adversary

will some day find the courage

to return the compliment

in shared areas where we agree
 
Perhaps these seeds of positive reinforcement
could some day blossom
into a mutually fruitful relationship

It's definitely worth a shot

Respect for all can end this war 

Changing the current 
poisonous narrative
and coming to grips finally
with the uplifting concept
that it's OK to be
and to think differently
