In the end
it all went down like this

Since it was
back in the beginning
when cavemen conceived
this tribal bullshit

Fast forward to today

The lines now drawn in concrete
as the wall divides
us and them
into segregated camps

Repubs against Dems

Black versus white

Gays and straights

Those not like us
we ain't never gonna trust

These differences we fear
easily manipulated into hate

The virus of mass prejudice
coursing through our veins

Just study our sorry history

Tales of violent ignorance
spinning on a bloody loop
century after century

Hatred compounded
and institutionalized

War became mechanized
and deadly efficient
as the bodies
piled up toward the sky

Such a grim story
scribed on bloody parchment

So how to defeat
such an undefeated
ancient adversary?

Best to start with the basics
and enlist respect
as the first step
toward human reclamation
or we as a species
will one day self terminate
