Nibbling on Seconds

 

The spangled man
currently in demand
exploded from the clouds
riding a lightning bolt of fame

Media prophets say
he was preordained

A superstar necessity

A much needed jolt
for our dimming species

Maybe he really is
the Second Coming

long ago forecast

by ancient scribes

The smooth orator

sure fits the Savior bill

A pious character

projecting a soothing aura

right out of Central Casting  

Though as always

the Doubting Thomas I am

reserves final judgement

on any and all

would be messiahs

None of us desperate pilgrims

wanna be fooled

or duped again

Let's hope and pray

we won't have to crucify

this promising Savior too

as our jaded species

is prone to do
