As We Lie

 

We sank slowly into it

Like two lumps

mired in quicksand

That weary mattress
sure was a disappointment
when it came to firmness
and physical support
which really messed up
our surreptitious tryst
so meticulously planned

Now romantics will say

comfort should not matter

in affairs of passion
but it does
to us middle age adulterers

with our aches and pains

that is always a consideration

in any physical activity
