Ghostly Residue

 

The man of conviction
armed only with persistence
and steadfast certainty
made it his mission
to take down the system
long the instrument

of his people's oppression

This of course

made him a threat
to the powers that be

not accustomed

to being challenged

this successfully

So they had him executed
one gray April day
on a Memphis balcony

Making him a holiday

A bookmark of history

But they could not slay

his haunting memory

or the glorious cause

that lives on to this day
