The things you find
during the decluttering process
Snippets frozen in time.
This forgotten scrapbook now soothes
my fading mind
Pics fully laminated.
Offering protection against the elements
and the ravages of today.
Locked in memories
where none of us age out
Even death can not penetrate
this thick veneer of yesterday
where cruel erosion is made irrelevant
to these locked in moments of joy.
Arthritic fingers
painfully skimming
long neglected precious pages
Liberating displaced images
from a bygone existence
of youthful exuberance
and unbridled innocence
where we still owned
all our tomorrows
I gently place my nostalgia down into the double lined trash bag designed to dispose of former treasures now consigned to the scrap heap of history for permanent ignore once our generation is gone
