You do know of course
that this life game we all play
is totally rigged
but we gotta compete anyway
to fight over the scraps
that trickle down
into the massive pit
where we have been consigned
with the rest of the ballast
Maybe this is our destiny
to settle for comfortable mediocrity
while playing the daily lottery
just in case fortune finds us
