Pawns Take Queen

In a glass palace serene
resides the Porcelain Queen
currently in a state
of solitary melancholy
over the extinction of royalty

The splendor of all that once was
packed away in crates
on the dusty shelves
of faded yesterdays

Cobweb clouds
descend from
heavy gray skies
on the catatonic relic
of a drunken figurine
awash with regrets
as the sun forever sets

on her shattered
bygone empire

She knows full well
the wrecking ball of history
will not be forgiving
to her opulently privileged kind
who flaunted every excess
in the envious faces
of the now in charge peasants
